ReFLEX has launched its new Building Retrofit Plan (BRP) Service, to support homeowners and businesses in Orkney to evaluate how best to improve their properties with low carbon options such as insulation, heating, solar and batteries, for heat and power so they are warmer, more energy efficient and affordable to run. During the pilot stage of the service this winter ReFLEX will be offering discounts of up to 50%.
When planning to improve your home, community or business premises it can be confusing to navigate the variety of technologies, grants and funding programmes, and to find the best and most affordable approach that is right for your particular property and situation.
As part of this service, ReFLEX are offering expert local support from our Orkney-based team, affordable finance through supported access to grants and finance, for your bespoke retrofit plan.
A BRP involves a detailed survey and a report setting out a medium-term (up to 15-20 years) step-by-step retrofit and upgrade roadmap to enhance energy efficiency for a building - this can be a home, community building or a business building. It is designed to reflect the changing situation of the owner or occupier, and also addresses the complexity of renovation and retrofit works, providing recommendations to make sure that works are undertaken in the best order to benefit the household/organisation/business, the property and utilise potential funding opportunities. It can also be updated and, should the property change hands, allows the new owner to take up where a previous owner left off.
For a BRP service our expert team will do a thorough assessment of the property and energy use to understand how you use energy now, what aspects of your home/building can be, and should be, upgraded, and a range of low carbon technologies which could improve your home. The survey will include a Full Energy Performance Certification survey, a Retrofit Assessment and condition report, FLIR Thermal Imaging, Ventilation Assessment, Indoor Air Quality Assessment and Radon testing, if you live in a high-risk area.
This will be followed by a plan outlining and recommending the retrofit measures that are best fit for your property, a routemap of recommendations, and the funding options available to support you with this work. The plan will include detailed 3D Plan Drawings, FLIR Thermal Images that let you literally see where cold is getting into the property, and an Energy Performance Certificate. Once you have completed one stage of the installation journey you can then come back to our team, who will then guide you on the further stages until your retrofit plan is completed.
Participants in the BRP pilot will have their property assessed at a discounted rate of up to 50%, funded by Innovate UK through the Rural Energy Hubs project. The discount will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
